Campaigns Annual Top Radio Ads.

This week saw a fantastic party in Regents Park where the entire cast of the London Zoo Radio commercial celebrated their entry into Campaigns list of the ten best radio commercials of 2009.

The roars, howls and shrieks could be heard all over Camden Town, but this turned out to be a gathering at Amy Winehouse’s place.

The Candle Christmas Quiz 2009!

WATCH & LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THIS FILM FOR OUR GREAT CANDLE QUIZ >>>
There is an introductory message made up of slashed tracks, then the quiz starts after the pip.
Identify the titles and the artistes of the songs (or instrumental pieces) you hear. One point will be awarded for each correct answer.
Note:.In the case of classical pieces name the composers, not the artistes. For any TV themes, just the programme title is sufficient.
For 1 bonus point identify what is being said in the message at the start. This makes a possible total of 54 points.
Our honourable Chairman, Mr Satchell, has made a visit to his well-stocked wine cellar and has hand-selected a fine bottle of champagne for the person with the most points.
Email your answers to BEN@CANDLE.ORG.UK by Monday, 4th Jan 2010.
Happy Christmas!

The Little Wanker.
The performance artist Ant the Rant put on an installation at the Foundry in Shoreditch, the last one before it closed down. The installation was inspired by Ant’s breakdown.Candle cast the script and recorded the dialogue.
Ant writes:
In November 2005, after a period of emotional stress and bouts of drinking and drug-taking, I suffered a breakdown which resulted in an episode of psychosis. At the beginning of the episode, I was convinced I was being persecuted by my neighbours and kept a record of the dialogue. The event culminated in me believing that my clothes had been impregnated with an advanced technology developed by MI5 and ultimately led to a 6 week spell In a psychiatric hospital.
On recovery, I became fascinated by the power of my mind to ‘rationalise’ he experience, no matter how outlandish the conclusion. I was also made acutely aware of the lack of understanding of
psychosis, the stigmas associated with it and the different attitudes to treatment.
Centred around the recorded transcript of the dialogue I was hearing, using actors, this exhibition invites you to experience the inner voices as I did, as a very tangible external reality.
Alongside the sound installation, I contrast material from my daily working and domestic life with this inner conflict and show how these overlapped with, an often, prophetic synchronicity and how your home – normally a safe haven - can suddenly become hostile.
It explores the fine line between a lively creative mind and an unhealthy imagination, the power of self -suggestion and the chemistry of psychosis.

On the 4th Nov Charlie, Tony and Ben were invited by Sting and Trudie Styler to the Saatchi Gallery, Chelsea for the launch of Bobby Sager's new book, THE POWER OF THE INVISIBLE SUN, a title inspired by the Sting song. It was a star-studded evening and Sting played an inspiring acoustic set with his current eight-piece band.Playing violin was the fabulous Kathryn Tickell who also played Northumbrian pipes in the foyer beforehand.
Working for Trudie’s production company, Xingu Films, Ben has composed the music and recorded the voice-overs for her cardio/dance work out DVD series. The exercises are all demonstrated by Trudie and James d’Silva, Madonna’s training guru, and the first DVD’s in the series are already on release in the USA through Gaiam.

Charlie @ Watford.
Charlie has been going out to Watford to give the Advertising Course a talk about music for quite a long time! Recently he’s been ending the talk with a bit of a concert on his ukulele (which fits easily on to the motorbike he rides). Here he is singing his song “Where I Want To Be” from the album From The Attic by The Zoobes.
